My heart lurches at the thought of her, of the pain she has yet to feel, of the gaping hole that’s about to open up in her world. Holly Seddon, author of Don't Close Your Eyes 'A twisted world of family secrets and sibling rivalry.

All Is going well between the sisters until one fateful night when Emily and her husband James go to a party leaving Jess babysitting their baby daughter Daisy. Her parents Emily and James have gone out for the evening and Emilys sister is home looking after her niece. I was never quite sure which one was telling the truth and their versions of events were constantly at odds with each other. It's told using dual narratives, that of both Jess and Emily and honestly, they both made me feel uneasy and wary.

When I open my eyes she’s looking at me as if she doesn’t believe me, or else she thinks I’m insane. I also loved the past between both sisters being gradually revealed alongside the current situation.

Emily’s neat dark bob has lost its party sheen of the night before, and she looks tiny beside James, whose posture is like that of a great wide-shouldered boy. Keely offers us a first person look at her life while Jonah and his team are featured in the chapters written in third person omniscient which follows them as they do the grunt work necessary to solve the case. We’re in the living room, an open doorway separating me and my traumatised sister, and the woman is looking at me for a response. I actually sat holding the book after I had finished it just to let those last few pages resonate fully. The difficulty of picking a way through their stories is further compounded by an existing medical condition, erratic suspicions, unhelpful press intrusions, and the devastating secrets nurtured by other members of this all too modern-day family.I want to feel more, but I can’t, my senses deadened by the impact of the fall, my thoughts and emotions slow to respond. Detective Jonah Sheens is enjoying a moment of peace and quiet, when a teenage girl wanders out of the wood.

Karen's Sleepover: Karen is going to have a sleepover and she invites all the girls in her class, including a new girl named Pamela, who isn't fun to be around.

A long estrangement of sixteen years has been swept under the carpet and they've once again become close to the point that Jess has moved in with Emily and her family. The ending was superb, just the type of conclusion that I appreciate, one that takes me off guard a bit, but in a good way.
