Description

I had no idea that brain - something we take for granted because we do not even notice its work on a daily basis - can do such wonders. Eagleman] aims, grandly, to do for the study of the mind what Copernicus did for the study of the stars.

For example, if the brain's so damn changeable, how can we even hold on to any memories before they get overwritten by new stuff? g. the brain as an information-maximizing machine; the basis of synesthesia; and the purpose of dreaming (hint: so you don't go blind). Eagleman has a talent for testing the untestable, for taking seemingly sophomoric notions and using them to nail down the slippery stuff of consciousness. It is accepted by you that Daunt Books has no control over additional charges in relation to customs clearance. Dock underlättar det då hjärnan stagnerar efter hand som den bildar en bättre uppfattning av verkligheten utanför. Eagleman’s infectious enthusiasm, his use of fascinating anecdotes, and his clear, effortless prose render the secrets of the brain’s adaptability into a truly compelling page-turner. Stare at the colored lines for a bit: the red lines for a few seconds, then the green lines, then the red lines again, and then the green lines.

Det blir då uppenbart att världen utspelar sig inuti våra egna huvuden om än som en representation av den riktiga. Eagleman also sets himself apart by introducing new, often quite startling theories, as well as making predictions.Plasticity has been known about for a long time and none of the information in the book was more than I learnt in my undergraduate degree. The magic of the brain is not found in the parts it's made of but in the way those parts unceasingly reweave themselves in an electric living fabric. Your neural networks are not hardwired but livewired, reconfiguring their circuitry every moment of your life.

All of our books are 100% brand new, unread and purchased directly from the publishers in bulk allowing us to pass the huge savings on to you! With his hallmark clarity and enthusiasm he reveals the myriad ways that the brain absorbs experience: developing, redeploying, organizing, and arranging the data it receives from the body's own absorption of external stimuli, which enables us to gain the skills, the facilities, and the practices that make us who we are. For example, the brain can successfully navigate a changing body and environment, so why can't our things do the same? The subject really grabbed my attention, and Eagleman is good at storytelling, but there were a couple of things about the writing style that irritated me. Loved his use of popular science fiction examples to illustrate (Aliens franchise, Star Trek, Terminator etc.

I am unable to trust the accuracy of information in this book without fact checking each individual point. The magic of the brain is not found in the parts it’s made of, but in the way those parts unceasingly re-weave themselves in an electric, living fabric. The author seems most eager to point out ways that our current understanding of the brain could lead to wild, sci-fi futures.
